Summary of Incident:
On June 28, 2010 at approx 1:30 p.m. the Monroe County Communications
Center received a 911 call from an employee at the Farmers and Merchants
Bank, North Branch, in the City of Tomah. Employees of the bank
reported that there had been an armed robbery and provided a description
the suspect.
Upon arrival officers located a subject in the immediate area who
matched the description provided by the bank employees. The subject
was taken into custody without incident.
Upon investigation it was determined that the subject entered the bank
and provided a note to the teller indicating that this was a robbery,
that he had a gun, and was demanding money. The teller provided
the subject with an undisclosed amount of money. A gun was not
displayed during the robbery.
The subject taken into custody was identified as Mark A Rathbun. A
search of the subject revealed that he did not possess a gun. The
money that was taken during the robbery was recovered from Rathbun.
Rathbun was transported to the Monroe County jail. A charge of
Armed Robbery is being referred to the Monroe County District Attorneys
office. Armed robbery is a Class C Felony which is punishable with
a fine not to exceed $100,000 or imprisonment
not to exceed 40 years, or both
